went to watch the secret love in peach blossom land on sat.. after everything.. didn't fully appreciate the play till now when i've done some background research on the play..
apparently it has been adapted and modified time and again.. and it has a deeper meaning than just 2 play groups who accidentally booked the stage and are forced to rehearse together while making some funny scenes as they answer each other's questions even though it's 2 different plays bec they have a common theme and story.. a sad one and an even sadder one (even though it's supposed to be a comedy..)

it was first played during the times when taiwan was first separated from china.. the independence and lost period and the time when china was undergoing a major cultural and economical development and change..

throughout the play there was this woman who was searching for a man liu zhi jin or jian who might not even exist.. i tot it was ridiculous at first.. only now do i realise the feeling of lost and helplessness she was feeling symbolised more than that.. no wonder the play is so popular.. not only here but overseas in taiwan, china and even uk i think..

also tot the fact that they ended with a very draggy scene was quite stupid cos they brought everything to a high climax just before the final scene.. but now i realise that it's appropriate given the times the play was first performed and the fact tat the other play was even more sobbering than the other one..

i would highly reccomend everyone to watch the show.. but of cos pls do ur research before going.. else you'll be like us.. critcising the play without knowing the true significance.. and sounding like idiots trying to act smart.. in a crowd so somber and serious..
